In the linked article, Dr Fung talks about controlling hunger, here are his points:

  • Have you eaten a loaf of garlic bread, a bowl of pasta, and a dish of pistachio gelato and still felt hungry?
  • you’re not alone
  • people feel helpless and out of control always eating
  • I’m so jealous of the people who feel stuffed after a half of a sandwich
  • even bariatric surgery patients are still hungry
  • their appetite is out of control
  • hunger is NOT about the the size of your stomach
  • you can’t decide to be less hungry
  • appetite is driven by hormones
  • our body releases satiety hormones like peptideYY to tell us when to stop eating
  • the diet we’ve been told to eat the last 50 years did NOTHING TO CONTROL HUNGER
  • Eliminating processed junk foods and using intermittent fasting regulates the hormones that control your appetite
  • one patient did a 7 day fast, which really reduced his appetite
  • while fasting, ghrelin, the hunger hormone does not continually rise, it rises and falls cyclically but over 7 days actually falls
  • so fast through the wave and you won’t be hunger in an hour
  • “Just try it once,” I tell them. “If it’s that bad, then we don’t have to do it again.”
  • Never has anyone stopped after one fast. They’re surprised at just how easy it was and how satiated they feel. Fasting can give you control back.

Lets figure it out!  The Fasting Motivation podcast is not medical advice.

When I get the hungries, I do a quick walk and repeat my daily declaration:

it’s a ghrelin cheat

tricking us to eat,

so get up, move those feet AND

repeat repeat repeat:

I am not a bitch to hunger

I am not a hunger’s little bitch
