The linked talk is title low carbohydrate diet for type 2 diabetes reversal, here are my notes:

  • there are other ways to reverse type 2 diabetes
  • the ultimate choice is the patients
  • most people will choose low carb as an option, not everyone will, and that’s okay
  • That being said, Sarah has seen low-carb work and believes it
  • over 50% of adults in the US have diabetes or pre-diabetes
  • but its worse
  • only 12% of adults are in optimal metabolic health….88% are not
  • it’s panic time 9 of 10 of us are in trouble
  • type 2 diabetes is reversible
  • there are 3 proven wasy to reverse diabetes: bariatric surgery, very low calorie diet, low carbohydrate diet
  • Bariatric surgery works, but there are a lot of risks, costs, but it does not solve the underlying issue
  • very low calorie diets are somewhere between 300 – 1000 calories a day, but weight rebound is really common
  • low carb diets work, there are many studies including 22 randomly controlled diets and 100s of others
  • the degree of carb restriction matters, the lower you go, the better the diabetes remission is
  • Sarah talks about her own 5 year trial with 465 participants, she has 2 year results now
  • after 2 years, over 50% reversed diabetes and maintained it after 2 years
  • we don’t need another drug, we need food, it works
  • 91% insulin users reduced or eliminated insulin
  • 74% retained, this is actually super high comparatively
  • 10% weight loss
  • liver fat scores dropped significantly
  • mood & energy improved
  • Sarah compares the DIRECT trail which was a low calorie diet to reverse diabetes which had similar results
  • low carb is now the standard of care
  • low carb is the only eating pattern that allows for the removal of insulin
  • The VA has been recommending low carb for 2 years
